The Service leads, participates or collaborates in numerous national and international multicentric studies on anaesthesiology. Some of these studies are ARISCAT, ANESCAT, ANESCARDIOCAT, EuSOS, PERISCOPE, OBTAIN, ETPOS, PROBESE, LAS VEGAS or POPULAR, among others.
In addition, several doctoral thesis are currently being completed in the following areas: anaesthesia and cardiac surgery, residents and burnout, anaesthesia and immunological changes in cancer patients, pain, etc.

The service is responsible for administering anaesthesia in all kinds of potentially painful surgical or diagnostic/therapeutical procedures, or in those that require the patient's sedation or immobilization, in all ages and associated pathologies.
It manages chronic pain research, diagnosis and patients, both if they consult for this reason or if they are inpatients with acute post operative pain.

This is a critical care unit for post operative patients, offering comprehensive medical care without any hospital stay limits. In this unit, patients are strictly monitored in order to detect or treat possible alterations and apply the appropriate treatment, or, if necessary, life-support techniques.
