The hospital has a document defining its environmental policy (language: Catalan).
Waste management committee
Germans Trias has a committee that ensures the best management of the waste generated. The committee develops, implements and monitors the Waste Management Plan and trains professionals in this area.
Pioneers in reducing food waste
The centre received an award in 2015 for a pioneer project in Europe to reduce waste of uneaten patient meals.
The project was carried out by the Kitchen Work Group, which analysed the reasons a meal is thrown away without having been touched, and it designed and implemented actions to fix it.
This way, we have managed to reduce the amount of food thrown away every day. The following video summarizes the project, which has become a new permanent area of work for the committee:

Master plan for energy saving and efficiency
The hospital also has a master plan focused on being a benchmark in energy saving and management, both from the technical point of view and by raising awareness among medical professionals.
Recently, it has signed its Energy Policy in accordance with the regulations applicable in this field and with the Energy and Climate Change Plan of Catalonia 2012-2020 and with the Catalan energy policy established by the Catalan Energy Institute, whose main mission is achieve an economy and society of low energy intensity and low carbon emission, innovative, competitive and sustainable, aligned with the European energy objectives for the year 2020.
